Somali Fisheries Women Association
Somali Fisheries Women Association “SOWFA” is a nonprofit and non-political social
organization meant to addressing gender inequities by improving women’s incomes and educational
levels, as well as their access to information and decision-making processes. The gap has been
impactful on socio-economical contribution of women at large and fishery industry in specific
enhance lowering women’s capabilities and ability to contribute to fishing and fisheries with clear
benefits on a number of levels for households, as well as society in general.
SOFWA is therefore committed to provide programs answering to the community’s basic needs
that are relevant on the current situation in Somalia Sustainable Fisheries. It is open to all no matter
which race, tribe or color the person possess. In accordance with the purpose of SOFWA
inception and its existence.
